Parent & Student Update Letter 20th March 2020.pdf

20th March 2020

Dear Parents and Students,

It has been a week now since you have all been at school and we are writing to you all to check in with you hoping that you and your families are all well. We thank you for playing your part in preventing the spread of Covid-19 in our communities.

As most of you are aware the Minister for Education held a press conference yesterday and gave an update with the State Examinations Commission (SEC) in relation to this year's State Exams which the Minister described as a ‘Certainty’ this year. We have summarised the details of the SEC statement for your information. It was stated on numerous occasions by the Minister, that at all times he and the SEC “have at all times been guided by consideration of the best interests of candidates” and we hope that this approach will bring great reassurance during this time of uncertainty.

Statement from the State Examinations Commission (SEC) on the State exams.

We would like to compliment our students and their teachers for their engagement on Google Classroom, this is a well-established platform for us at Dominican College and it will be a great help during the time ahead. Please ensure that students take responsibility for their learning by checking their assignments and following their teacher’s instructions.

Leaving Cert students should continue to follow daily classes, additional revision and develop their own study plan. Ms Moran, our Guidance Counsellor has attached.Guidance Advice to all Students. Junior Cycle students will be assigned learning regarding their CBAs by their teachers. Third Years students should focus on their assigned learning as well as their continued revision plans. Transition Year students should continue to work on their Digital Portfolios focusing on their subjects and other areas of learning. Many of the book companies have now opened free online access to all textbooks. Our Twitter feed https://twitter.com/DominicanCGA as displayed on our school website www.dominican-college.com has tweeted all the links on how to access these.

We are currently finalising Mock Reports for Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate students. We will open these for you to view on our Management Information System VSware . Login details will be sent out via our school texting system. We will let you know any further updates regarding SEC Exams and school return date as soon as we have information via e-mail and on the ‘News’ section of our website.

As we all play our part in preventing the spread of Covid-19, we would like to thank our parents and relatives of our school community who are healthcare and frontline staff. We value, acknowledge and thank you all for your contribution in these unprecedented times.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Olive Laffoy - Principal Ms Lorraine McCool & Ms Marguerite Norris - Deputy Principals
