2nd Year Junk Kouture

2nd Year Junk Kouture

For our Respect and Connect activity, 2nd year participated in Junk Kouture. On Thursday, the 26th of September, we went down to the gym and created outfits out of junk and recycled material. Imaginative and unique outfits were made to fit the theme of “Disney”.

Each team included a DJ, creative designer,a model and a commentator. The first two hours were spent constructing our designs, which had been decided on days in advance. The gym very quickly became a fashion studio as teams began sewing, cutting and glueing their materials together to create the finished look.

After a quick break for lunch, all of 2nd year banded together to clean up, as the gym looked as if a very fashionable bomb had hit it! Then the real excitement began and the models began to walk the catwalk. Each model was introduced by a commentator, who described the design. Then, the model took to the runway to music selected by the DJ.

Our three judges had their work cut out for them! Each outfit was truly fantastic and created in the spirit of Respect and Connect week. A sense of anticipation fell over the gym like a heavy blanket as the victorious teams were announced. Many prizes were to be won, including Penney's vouchers, water bottles and treats. Extra awards like “best prop” and “best headpiece” were also distributed to deserving teams.

Even though there were only three top spots, we all came out feeling like winners, having had a fantastic time. It was truly a day to remember!
