Contingency Plan for School Closure due to Covid-19 as announced by Taoiseach

Dear Parents/Guardians,

To date, we have been following the HSE advice as given to us by the Department of Education and Skills. We have shared and will continue to share this evolving advice with you on our website.

We have been practicing good hygiene with students as advised by the HSE and posters are displayed prominently around the school. Our teachers have been preparing for the possibility of a school closure, and have shared their learning plans with students. I have spoken with the whole student body today and requested that students structure their school day at home in accordance with their class timetable, take responsibility for their learning and follow the advice and guidance of their teachers.

Amongst our contingency plans are the following:

  • Students have been asked to bring home all the necessary books, notes and exam papers thus enabling study and schoolwork at home. Students are also familiar with on-line e-books.
  • Students should access their school e-mail account and log into all their Google Classrooms as set up by their teachers
  • As per our Acceptable Use Policy (as displayed on our school website) communication with teachers is strictly through Google Classroom. Students should not contact teachers directly via e-mail.
  • Students should write their daily homework into their respective journals as they would during any other school day. Form Teachers will review all School Journals on our return to school. This will help students with time management and foster a sense of progress in their learning.
  • Please also be aware that when we return to school there is an expectation that school work will be completed and teachers will continue from this point.

The following link will bring you to the DES guidelines for:

Talking to Children and Young People about COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Advice for Parents and Schools

We will keep you updated in relation to the return date as per DES advice. We will continue all other contact by parent and student e-mail and through our website. Any information we receive from the DES or the SEC regarding oral exams, practical exams, projects, CBAs etc will be shared with you. Parents may contact the school using the school email address

I would ask that you keep in your prayers those who have been directly affected by the Coronavirus Covid-19. We will also keep the healthcare workers, some of whom are parents of our students, who are managing the illness in our thoughts and prayers. We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 30th March.

Yours sincerely

Dr Olive Laffoy - Principal
