Dominican College Shares Sad News

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Students & Friends of Dominican College,

It is with deep regret that we contact you with a sad message this evening to let you know of the sudden and untimely death of Ms Sinéad O'Reilly, our esteemed friend, colleague, Art teacher and 1st Year Assistant Year Head. We are all absolutely heartbroken by Sinéad’s passing. She will be dearly missed. Our thoughts are with Sinéads family.

A Prayer for Sinéad

A loving nature,
A heart of gold,
The very best
This world could hold.
Never selfish, always kind,
These are the memories
You left behind
A silent thought
A quiet prayer,
For a special person
In God’s care.

We understand that this message is difficult to process for our whole school community. The next few days will be difficult for everyone. We will keep in touch with you all - please keep an eye on the school App and website. Please click here for information to support your child through this difficult time: ways-to-help-your-child-through-this-difficult-time-r12-.pdf

Given that the school is closed on Monday, we ask parents to support your daughters by taking time to listen, talk with them and to encourage them to express their feelings. All young people are different and will express themselves in different ways. They frequently turn to social media to see what others are saying. Please have a conversation with your daughter to emphasise the need to be extremely sensitive and avoid any public social media posts at this sad time. We ask you to respect the privacy of Ms O’Reilly’s family.

Heaven has gained a beautiful soul and we have lost a beloved teacher and friend.
