Dominican College Griffith Avenue scoops prestigious Ireland & UK ‘Google for Education Award’ at Ceremony in London
Inaugural Google Reference School & College Award recognises the school's exceptional commitment to innovative and effective use of digital technology
Dominican College Griffith Avenue was announced as the first-ever Google Reference Secondary School of the Year beating off stiff competition from schools all over Ireland and the UK, in an Awards Ceremony held last night in Google’s London HQ.
This inaugural Google Reference School Award recognises Dominican College’s exceptional commitment to innovative and effective use of digital technology to enhance teaching, learning, assessment and digital literacy.
Deputy Principal Lorraine McCool and teacher Joe Curry were honoured to accept the highly acclaimed award on behalf of the school.
Ms McCool said: "We are so proud of our incredible students, whose willingness to experiment, collaborate, and embrace new ways of learning has been instrumental in our success. This award is also a testament to our teachers’ dedication to embracing new technologies and integrating them into engaging learning experiences for our students.”
Marguerite Norris, Principal of Dominican College, said: “ Winning this award is an immense honour for our school, and recognises years of dedication by our Digitial Learning Team led by Deputy Principal Ms Lorraine McCool whose vision for digital learning has been fostered by our innovative teachers and student engagement.
“Winning the Google School of the Year Award is a tremendous achievement for our entire school community. We are a true learning organisation where students learn from teachers and teachers learn from students.
“A prime example of digital learning is our innovative TY (Transition Year)Programme, where students use digital portfolios on Google Sites to reflect on their learning journeys. This empowers them to not only master digital tools but also develop critical self-assessment and metacognition skills, crucial for lifelong learning.
“This prestigious award celebrates the hard work and dedication of the entire school community, including our enthusiastic students, exceptional teachers, innovative Digital Learning Team, and visionary Senior Leadership Team.
“It serves as an inspiration for schools across Ireland and the UK to embrace digital technologies and empower the next generation of learners with 21st-century skills. We are excited to see where digital learning will bring our incoming first-year students when they commence in our school in September.”
We should all feel incredibly proud. We will celebrate this wonderful achievement on our return to school in August. Congratulations everyone!
