The #andshecycles program is an initiative that was created to encourage more young girls and women to cycle. In Ireland, 1 in 25 teenage boys cycle to school compared to only 1 in 250 teenage girls who cycle to school. This program aims to develop role models for young girls and break down the barriers and stigma often associated with girls cycling.
As #andshecycles ambassadors, we will be working alongside our school community on this project throughout the year to achieve our goals and targets developed as part of our action plan. Our mission is to make cycling more accessible and appealing to girls.
On Tuesday, October 22nd, we had the opportunity to attend a #andshecycles training day at the Spencer Hotel, accompanied by Ms. Brennan, who has been a great support throughout this journey. We got to meet other ambassadors from other schools around the country and discussed challenges, solutions, and ideas. This was very beneficial to listen to other people’s opinions and we got a lot of inspiration to develop our action plan. This insight will help us to further develop our plans as ambassadors.
We are all looking forward to a successful two years ahead as #andshecycles ambassadors for Dominican College Griffith Avenue!
