Accounting is a Business Studies option within the established Leaving Certificate programme. Accounting is the art of recording, classifying and summarising in terms of money, transactions and events which are , in part at least, of a financial character, and interpreting the results.
The syllabus is divided into the following main topics:
- Conceptual Framework (Objectives and Fundamentals of Accounting).
- Accounting Records (Control Accounts, Final Accounts, and Suspense Accounts).
- Analysis of Financial Statements (Ratio Analysis).
- Management Accounting (Cost Classification and Budgetary Planning).
